The theme of this update: Amazing women who made an incredible impact. Jane recently celebrated her 90th birthday and is still going strong! Peggy would have celebrated her 100th in two weeks. She never slowed down! While she’s no longer with us her legacy lives on within Toronto’s Irish community. Peggy was a champion of the arts who spearheaded numerous fundraising initiatives from the moment her Dublin feet hit Toronto’s ground in 1954. For decades she helped others and left an indelible mark of kindness, compassion, tenacity, and humility. Over the last several years a labour of love manifested with a documentary that will screen on the centenary of Peggy’s birth, June 1st. The other phenomenal woman is another force of nature. In fact, she spent a great deal of her life ensconced in nature. Considered the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees, Jane Goodall still travels around the world, writing, speaking, and spreading hope through action. As a conservationist, humanitarian, and crusader for the ethical treatment of animals, she is a global force for compassion and a UN Messenger of Peace. The Jane Goodall Institute contacted me through my site last month commissioning me to narrate the intro to a video Jane would see at her birthday celebration. What an honour to be a small part of this milestone event for such an iconic figure. Her team requested a hyped-up David Attenborough-styled narration. So, here’s me, monkeying around in the recording booth, so to speak. |
