Diction-“eh”-ry | |||

This past August I had the distinction to work as diction coach on a new TV movie adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel The Robber Bride which was filming in Toronto.
I was contacted by the production company to “Canadianize” the sound of British actress Amanda Root (Jane Eyre), pictured at left on set, and Ireland’s Susan Lynch (Waking Ned Devine). The coaching sessions with the talented thespians were conducted at the imEdge studios and on the movie set.
Even with a thick Brit accent and deep Irish brogue the two ladies masterfully picked up the speech nuances necessary for their Canadian characters. (Ed. note: They’re back in Dublin and London right now saying “I’d luvva cup o’ tea…eh”)
The Robber Bride wrapped filming in early September and will be shown in Canada on CBC, and in the U.S. on Oxygen.

The new Fall TV line-up is up and running and nobody is running faster than Donnie Wahlberg. He and Leslie Hope star in the new series Runaway, a drama about a fugitive family. Ah yes, the family that runs from the law together stays together.
The show, shot in Toronto acting as an American location, airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. EDT on the new youth-oriented CW.
Pictured here on set, I was cast as a reporter. I shouldn’t be this happy. A family’s on the loose.

Boy, oh boy. Look at me over the past few months. In front of the TV camera and behind the movie scenes. Well, Mr. Big Shot also did some corporate on-camera gigs. One of these was for Cisco Unified Communications.
I’d like to provide an explanation of the real time technological integration and advanced communications networking details involved but I’m certain my head would explode. Besides, you can find out more on the Cisco Systems site.
The production company filming the promotional video was Chopper Pictures Inc. Check their site reel and you’ll see I worked with this excellent crew before on a project for the American Headache Society.
(Ed. note: the American Headache Society does have methods to prevent spontaneous head explosions.)
